Anastasia Playbill

This playbill was a volunteer project I took on for St. Ambrose Academy's annual Spring musical. I was provided with the artwork for the cover (created for their advertising poster), client and family advertisements, and the copy for the various portions of the booklet, which was expected to be anywhere from 52 to 64 pages, dependent on advertising. Our timeframe for production was two weeks. For the cover, I modified the poster art slightly and added length due to its shorter ratio, blending the color and adding information on the show dates, times, and location. The back cover and inside covers, due to their being in color on heavier weight paper, I reserved for photos of the production and information and advertising for the school. For my font choices, I was particularly focused on a selection based on legibility at standard size in the lower lighting of a theater auditorium, with a wide variety of typefaces to differentiate headings and important information. I went with a standard Times New Roman for the primary body copy, to give it a clean, familiar look. The accent font for the Title and page headers was Vladamir, which was elegant and slightly slavic, but maintained legibility. Advertisements were placed throughout the playbill, interspersed below and opposite copy to ensure high visibility while keeping readers engaged with the information. Important reminders and legally required information were placed prominently and with adequate white space to draw attention. The 5.5 x 8.5 booklet was 60 pages, with 800 copies made and provided throughout the weekend to the more than 1200 attendees at the three shows.
